This manual contains five parts:
· How to use this manual effectively

It is advisable to view the whole document but not necessary to read in its order. You can read any part that is useful first. However, please take a careful look on part D to get clear instructions about how to use buttons on Smartphone keypad.
Note:
In part D, bold letters are used for the tabs or functions in the Tools menu and the brown letters mean buttons on Smartphone keypad.
II. Introduction to eDictionary Reader
eDictionary Reader is a software application that enables to open terminology dictionaries. With neat and perfect design, smart interface and other advanced features such as: lookup words in other applications, audio pronunciation support for all English key words, eDictionary Reader is really an excellent product for Pocket PC.
The Smartphone version not only inherited preeminent features of eDictionary for Pocket PC but also synthesized from user's experience and the latest technology on Smartphone platform.
III. How to install eDictionary to Smartphone
Basic requirements: 469 KB free space
1. Download eDictionary_Reader_SP.ZIP from the website to your Desktop PC and Unzip the zipped file to a folder with a zip tool. The popular unzip program is WinZip available at www.winzip.com , if you do not have one.
2. Start MS Active Sync and make sure that your Smartphone is connected with Desktop PC.
3. Run setup file (edictionarysp_sp.exe) then you will see the setup screen as:
4. Choose location: you can install eDictionary to SD card or main memory, we recommend you install it to SD Storage Card. You will see the screen as below.
5. After finishing this step the game will be installed and an icon is created in Program menu, go to Start >>Program, you will see Icon of eDictionary . Now you have to copy supplemental files for eDictionary before start
6. Go back to the folder where you've uncompressed zipped file and you will see files as the screen:
a. Copy file FliteDLL.DLL to the folder where you've installed eDictionary (normally it will be installed to SD card). You can open Mobile Device Directory by using My Computer as screen below.
b. Copy lexicon (data) to your smartphone.
E.g: In this example, we instruct you copy "English Dictionary.lxd" and "English Dictionary.dat" (one dictionary consist of a Lxd file and a Dat file). Select "English Dictionary.lxd" and "English Dictionary.dat" from Desktop PC and copy files (Ctrl-C or Right-click then choose Copy) then go to Mobile Device Directory Screen then paste you will see the screen as above. If you want to use other dictionary, download them from our site and copy to your smartphone then here you go (see How to open dictionary).
IV. Functions
When running eDictionary for the first time, you have to open a dictionary by selecting the folder where you store the data (see "How to open a dictionary" below) and this dictionary will be defaulted. Therefore, next running, if you want to use another dictionary, please open a new one by the same steps.
The eDictionary Toolbar contains two tabs, namely Tools and Meaning (see below).
1. Tool functions
There are seven components in this menu: Open Dictionary, Toggle Dictionary, Favorite, Pattern Search, Preferences, About, Exit.
How to choose Tool functions: Press Left button on the Smartphone keypad, then the Menu will appear. To select one you can:
- Press the number such as 1,2…7 that responds to each function on the Menu.
- Use up/down arrows to move between these functions and press Enter to choose.
a. How to open a dictionary: After you choose this function (see How to select Tool functions), press Enter to get the folder tree. Then use arrows to move between the folders. To go to child folders, choose Enter. Finally, select OK to select or Cancel to remove your choice.
For example, in order to open the dictionary in the
above screenshot, please follow these instructions: - Run eDictionary Reader -
Press Yes to activate Meaning and Tools - Choose Tools/ Open dictionary - Press Enter on the keypad. Then a folder tree appears. - Move down arrow to Temp, press Enter to go to English Chinese.lxd. - Select OK to locate that directory. Now you can look up words in that dictionary.
b. Toggle Dictionary: This function allows you to
switch to the reverse dictionary. For example, if you install both
English-French and French-English Dictionaries to your eDictionary Reader and
you are using the first one, you can convert to the second and vise versa by
selecting this feature (see How to select Tool functions above)
c. Favorite: This feature shows the list of the favorite words which you have already put into it. Use up/down arrows to move between the favorite words, choose the Meaning tab by pressing Right to get the meaning or select Remove if you want to leave it out of the favorite list.
d. Pattern search: If you want to search words with any pattern or cluster, select this feature and then a search box appears. Type your pattern and then choose Pt Search, you will get a list of words containing that cluster. The following are examples:
"?" stands for any single letter,"*" for zero or more letters. If you search "?ation", you will get " ration, nation, etc". With "*ment", you will have 1000 words with cluster "ment" such as abolishment, containment, garment, etc.
e. Preferences: This feature enables to option Background's Color, Text's Color, Font Styles and Clear Type Font. After choosing this, use up/down arrows to switch between these and press Enter to select one. Then move arrows to the colors/ font type you like and finally choose OK to select or Cancel if you do not like.
For instance, to get Blue background color, follow these steps:
- Open eDictionary
- Go to Tools/preferences.
- Use down arrow to move the selection box to Background's color and press Enter to select. Then a color list will be dropped down.
- Press down arrow to move to Blue
Choose OK to finish. Now you will get Blue as the background color.
f. About: This function shows the registration
information or show the screen where you can enter registration key to unlock the product. To choose this, see How to select Tool functions.
g. Exit: Choose this feature to close eDictionary Reader (see How to select
Tools functions above for more information).
2. Meaning functions
i. How to lookup a word: This function allows to lookup words. After opening a dictionary (see How to open a dictionary), you can select a word by two ways:
- Choose right/left arrow to activate the search box, and then type the word you want to lookup and choose the Meaning tab.
- Use up/down arrows to select a word in the word list, and choose the Meaning tab.
Now you will get the meaning of that word. When you press up/down arrows, a selection box surrounding a word in the meaning box appears. If that word exists in the dictionary, you can get its meaning by pressing Enter. If not, you get nothing even when pressing Enter. If you like to move the scrollbar, use up/down arrows.
The two tabs in the Meaning box are Search and Menu:
ii. Search:
This function enables to go back the screen where you can lookup
words.
iii. Menu: press right button to select/activate
There are five functions in this menu; namely Zoom in, Zoom out, Previous, Play sound and Add favorite. After opening this menu, please follow either of these ways to choose one:
- Press a number, e.g. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 on Smartphone keypad.
- Use up/down arrows to move between these functions and press Enter to select one.
a. Zoom in: This function enables to increase the font size.
b. Zoom out: Choose this to decrease the font size.
c. Previous: This shows the previous word, which you have just looked up.
d. Play sound: When you select this, you will hear the pronunciation of the
selected word. All English key words are supported audio pronunciation. You can
use this feature with English -> Other Language Dictionaries such as:
English- English, English- Chinese, English- French.
e. Add favorite: If you like a word, you can add it to the favorite list by
choosing this function when you get its meaning. To leave it out of the list,
select Remove in Menubar under the Meaning box.
